Second City

Article excerpt

It's not the World Series, but it doesn't get any better than New York vs. Chicago with something bigger than bragging rights at stake. When the National League Championship Series is over, the winner of this Mets-Cubs matchup will be in the 2015 World Series.

Before that, though, the Who's Better Battle will be raging, and it's about far more than baseball. It's about the cities, the people, the food.

New York vs. Chicago. Here we go.

Pizza

DEEP DISH VS. N.Y.-STYLE

The debate: There is no debate between that soupy, goopy mess that requires utensils and a really great slice folded in your hands.

The winner: New York. It's not even close.

Hot dog

CHICAGO-STYLE VS. N.Y. CLASSIC

The debate: In Chicago, that dog balances an entire garden on top with yellow mustard, sweet green pickle relish, onion, tomato wedges, pickle spear, sport peppers and celery salt on a poppy seed roll. And, sure, Ferris Bueller visited the Sears Tower on his day off and Batman stood atop it in "The Dark Night," but King Kong climbed the Empire State Building and Cary Grant waited hours for Deborah Kerr there.

The winner: New York. A giant gorilla swatting at planes? Cary Grant waiting for the love of his life? We love New Yorker Matthew Broderick, but not that much.

CUB FANS BILL MURRAY, JOHN CUSACK, EDDIE VEDDER, JIM BELUSHI VS. METS FANS JERRY SEINFELD, CHRIS ROCK, KEVIN JAMES, JON STEWART

The debate: This is the toughest call of them all, and it probably comes down to Murray vs. Seinfeld.

The winner: Chicago and Murray. Hey, it's a Cinderella story.

Frank Sinatra song

MY KIND OF TOWN VS. NEW YORK, NEW YORK

The debate: Mets fans might even vote for Chicago in this one, as "New York, New York" is forever linked to that other N. …
