The ribbon-cutting for the East Liberty transit center ("$150M Transit Center Opens," Oct. 15) inspires me to propose an idea that would enhance bus service there at no cost.

All inbound buses that stop at the East Liberty station and almost all waiting passengers have the same destination: Downtown. But many buses that stop there are only permitted to discharge passengers, not pick them up - notwithstanding their often half-empty state or the fact that they stop only about 100 feet from would-be riders. The sight of buses stopping at the platform where I wait, perhaps in frigid or stormy conditions, letting people off and then proceeding to town without me, is galling and gives rise to choice under-my-breath comments about Port Authority planners.

The advantages of allowing these buses to board passengers are obvious, while the only disadvantage would be the additional seconds required for boarding. …
