T'S all about going back to the past as we all mark Back To The Future day.

IThis lighthearted nod to the Back To The Future film franchise is celebrated all over the world, as film fanatics go wild to mark the date that Marty McFly - played by Michael J. Fox (pictured right) - and his mad professor pal Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) travelled forward to in 1989 blockbuster Back To The Future II.

We thought we'd take a look at how you could get a taste of Back To The Future action in and around Manchester. So just for fun, here's the calendar we'd recommend!

LEAVE THE PHONE AT HOME OK, we accept this is the most difficult 21st century decision there is these days and that most of you feel lost without your mobile phone, but movie enthusiasts among you will know that writers Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale did not forecast the advent of the hand-held cell phone.

So, if you're really going to get into the spirit, it's time to turn it off until October 22, 2015. And, as the creators correctly predicted we still would be, go get yourself a newspaper to catch up on the top headlines of the day!

GET THE FUTURE FASHIONS START today with a shopping spree!

There's plenty of places you can seek out some 1980s threads in Manchester at the moment. In fact, the era that was once harshly remembered as 'the decade fashion forgot'has found itself all the rage again with vintage shops all over stocking the kind of threads that Marty would have died to wear. You'll find everything you need in the Northern Quarter - on Oldham Street, now packed with vintage places again, or dig around some of the second hand stalls in Afflecks Palace.

On the shopping list: white and blue check shirt, brave some double blue denim with a jacket and jeans, some old-skool basketball boots and the all important red puffer bodywarmer for the boys; flowery jeans, denim waistcoat, white blouse, and some white pumps with white ankle socks for the girls who fancy rocking the look of Marty's flame Jennifer.

HAIL A CAB TO LUNCH - AND PAY FOR IT DIGITALLY OK, so we're not quite at the point where you can pay for a taxi with a digital thumb print, but give a virtual whistle to an Uber or a black cab via Mantax or Halo and you can pay for the journey with no need for cash. …
