The Pirates lost right-hander Vance Worley to the Baltimore Orioles in a waiver claim Tuesday, trimming by one their 2016 rotation options and arbitration-eligible players.

Worley, 28, began the season in the Pirates rotation while Charlie Morton rehabilitated from offseason surgery. Worley went to the bullpen when Morton returned and was designated for assignment at the trade deadline when the Pirates acquired Joe Blanton. They believed Blanton was better suited to a relief role than Worley, and at the time their rotation was full.

They added Worley to the expanded roster in September. He finished the season with a 4.02 ERA in 23 games, eight starts, spanning 71? innings.
