He's on the Beat! Policeman DJ Is Mixing It with the Kids ; Former Radio Presenter Aims to Improve Relations between Youngsters and Local PCSOs. . [City Region]

APOLICE officer is teaching youngsters how to DJ and improve relations with local officers at the same time.

Pc Mike McGuinness has been carting DJ equipment to the Mancunian Way youth club at Cedar Mount Academy, in Gorton for the past year.

The former DJ passes on his skills to the children, aged 11 to 18, at the club.

Older children are learning how to set up the equipment and the more technical aspects to spinning records.

And Pc McGuinness says he hopes the older kids could start teaching the younger participants at future sessions.

Pc McGuinness bought the DJ gear, worth Pounds 5,000, through a funding grant gained from money seized from criminals under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

The money is used by police to fund community initiatives.

As well as learning to DJ the children can play football, table tennis and other activities at the youth club.

A number of PCSOs in the Gorton South area are also helping with the DJ sessions to try and improve relations between the youngsters and officers who are out on the streets. …
