Sarasota could soon be the birthplace of a new movement in cinema if an up-and-coming Sarasota filmmaker and his French counterpart have their way.

Vincent Dale and Germain Kaeten grew up on different continents but in a world linked by the Internet.

Kaeten listened to Eminem and Arcade Fire in France, while Dale listened to French rap and new wave music from his Sarasota home. While Kaeten shot home-made films with his uncle, Dale watched 10 films per day in bed with a broken leg.

Both immersed themselves in cinema, dubbed "the seventh art" in Europe, or "le septieme art" in France. They now hope to transcend borders, languages and distinctive film cultures with their second feature film, which they will shoot near Myakka State Park.

Dale wrote and directed their first collaboration -- "Paris Love Conspiracy" -- a story of an American video blogger who falls in love with a woman involved in a cult that meets in the catacombs beneath Paris.

This time, Dale will act as the producer.

"I'm here to support his vision and make sure we have the best film possible," Dale said. "It's very rare to have two people who are aspiring directors. That's part of this movement to do whatever it takes to make really good films."

Dale and Kaeten, both 24, met at Cannes Film Festival in 2014. A "crazy, backpacking stuntman" connected them.

When Dale arrived in Paris in 2014 to make a film, he sought out Kaeten as a producer. He was among the 100 movers and shakers their age in the French film scene, Dale said. …
