Let's talk Non-Public Group 4 playoffs.

The final pecking order won't be chiseled in stone until all the residual points are tallied up next weekend, so we'll save the talk of matchups for another day. If truth be told, the hottest topic right now is the team that probably will have to buy tickets to see how it all turns out.

Paramus Catholic made it to the championship game last season, and the Paladins were the team everyone wanted to talk about in the preseason. But Saturday's 35-27 loss to DePaul means that even the back door into the playoffs is all but certain to be locked tight for the Paladins.

Tough luck? Yeah, maybe.

But you will be hard-pressed to find many people, even Big North United Division rivals, singing sad songs for PC.

The Paladins are better than most of the teams that are going to play for New Jersey's most celebrated title. They have some of the most highly touted talent in the state, and it will be a shame not to see senior Rashan Gary, the nation's top recruit, have his high school swan song on New Jersey's biggest stage.

But this miss is the byproduct of playing a national schedule. It's the trade-off for all the headlines, national rankings and television games. …
