St. Louis Man Charged with Kidnapping, Attempted Rape in Attack on Woman

ST. LOUIS * A man from St. Louis was charged Wednesday with abducting and trying to rape a woman before she stabbed him and escaped, authorities say.

Eugene E. McMurray, 40, of the 4200 block of Margaretta Avenue, was charged with rape or attempted rape, first-degree assault, kidnapping and three counts of armed criminal action. He was still hospitalized Wednesday because of his injuries but was ordered jailed on a $400,000 cash-only bail. A photo of McMurray was not available.

St. Louis police say McMurray was driving his truck about 3 a.m. Tuesday, stopped on St. Louis Avenue and asked a woman walking on the sidewalk if she needed a ride home. Police said the woman, 21, did not know the man.

Police initially said McMurray forced the woman in his truck, but charges say he offered her a ride but then told her he needed to make some stops before dropping her off. He then drove her to a parking lot off the alley behind his apartment and attacked her.

McMurray choked the woman, ordered her into the back seat and then told her to take off her clothes, police said. …
