Bus Terminal Expansion in Secaucus Hits Delay

Construction to expand the bus terminal at Secaucus Junction will be finished up to 10 months late, a spokesman for NJ Transit said Monday.

The good news: Despite the delay, the project will cost $1 million less than originally anticipated.

The first phase of the project was built to accommodate bus riders heading to Super Bowl XLVIII, held in East Rutherford in February 2014. That work, to expand an existing bus pickup and drop- off area, was completed in May 2013 for $2.1 million. That was eight months ahead of schedule and $1.4 million under budget, said Jim Smith, an NJ Transit spokesman.

The second phase involves another expansion, this time to 14 bus stalls. It also includes parking for employees, a layover area for idle buses, and construction of a curved steel canopy to protect passengers from the weather. …
