Poca High school will send a pair of student-athletes to the University of Charleston, as golfer David Scragg and pitcher Austin Henrich signed letters of intent Monday afternoon. Scragg was a member of the 2015 Class AA all-state golf team after finishing in a tie for seventh at October's state tournament, carding a 156. He finished ninth in the Class AA state tournament the season before, finishing with a 165. The Dots finished fourth in the state in both years.

Henrich earned honorable mention on the 2015 Class AA all-state baseball team after finishing with 46 strikeouts and a 2.13 earned run average in 46 innings pitched.

MEC FOOTBALL: West Virginia Wesleyan announced Monday that George Shehl had resigned after three seasons as the Bobcats' head coach. Shehl submitted that resignation this past Friday, effective midnight this past Sunday. The Bobcats finished 2-8 this season with a 60-20 loss to Notre Dame this past Saturday. Shehl was 11-19 in his three seasons at Wesleyan.

* Fairmont State's Darius Lee was named the Mountain East Conference defensive player of the week, while West Liberty's Dakota Conwell (offensive) and West Virginia State's Anthony Herrera (special teams) also earned player of the week honors for their play in the final week of the regular season.

Lee recorded a team-best nine tackles and helped hold Glenville State to just 290 yards of total offense (90 rushing) in FSU's win over the Pioneers. Lee had a sack and also had a part in two GSC turnovers forcing a fumble and picking off a pass.

Conwell had 414 of West Liberty's 453 yards of offense and helped rally the Hilltoppers to a 42-36 win over West Virginia State. Conwell was 14 of 24 passing for 280 yards and five touchdowns and added 134 yards and another score on the ground.

Herrera set an MEC record with five field goals in State's loss against West Liberty. …
