FCC Drops Action against Fnb Bank Clarifies Policy on Robo Marketing

The Federal Communications Commission said it would take no further action against FNB Corp. after citing Pittsburgh's No. 3 bank for violating rules intended to protect consumers from unwanted marketing calls and text messages.

"First National Bank has taken quick action to correct their policies," FCC spokesman Will Wiquist said in an email this week. "We anticipate no further action on this matter at this time."

In September, the agency accused FNB of requiring its online banking and Apple Pay customers to receive so-called robo marketing texts as a condition of service.

Federal rules allow autodialed and prerecorded telemarketing calls and texts if a customer gives written consent but forbid requiring consent as a condition of purchasing goods or services. …
