Emerson Seeks State Grant for Flooding Issues

EMERSON -- The borough has applied for a grant it hopes to use to find a solution for persistent flooding along Vivian Avenue, officials said.

Borough Administrator Bob Hoffmann said Emerson is requesting money from the New Jersey Department of Transportation's Local Aid Infrastructure Fund Program that it would use to pay for drainage improvements on Vivian Avenue near Dorchester Road and Pershing Street.

Officials said they do not know what the total amount of the funding would be, but they expect to hear back from the agency "within a few months," Hoffmann said.

Residents near the affected area, which hugs the Musquapsink Brook and Bogert Pond, have raised concerns at council meetings for more than half a year about flooding issues that occur during even moderate rainfall. …
