Connor Carew takes a deep breath before__ launching into a quick setup of the comedy__ "One Man, Two Guvnors," which opens Florida__ Studio Theatre's new season this week.__ In about a minute, he sets up the soap operaish__ backdrop to the story in which he stars as a man who__ spends the evening trying to hide the fact that he's__ working as a servant for two different people, one a__ criminal and the other a gangster.__ 'Anyone who has__ ever had too many__ things on their plate__ will enjoy Francis and__ laugh at him, watching__ him get in trouble and__ stay out of trouble.'__ --Director Jos

Of course, there are other__ complications to his mission.__ There are two sets of lovers,__ Pauline and Alan, who cannot__ marry because Pauline is__ betrothed to Roscoe, whose__ twin sister, Rachel, is in love__ with a man named Stanley.__ Rachel and Stanley can't marry__ in part because at some point__ they each think the other is__ dead. And everyone thinks__ Roscoe is dead, but somehow__ he appears to have returned.__ In his two jobs as a__ man named Francis Henshall, Carew tries to__ "steer people in multiple__ wrong directions so they__ avoid each other and no__ one catches on that I'm__ working for two people."__ And that's just the__ set-up for Richard__ Bean's comedy, based on__ Carlo Goldoni's com-media__ dell'arte classic__ "The Servant of Two__ Masters."__ Carew said he's had__ a lot of active roles but__ nothing of "this scope.__ I've been playing a lot__ more clown roles than__ anything, but this is__ the largest and most__ all-encompassing and__ confusing role I've__ played to date."__ With all those people__ in love and others trying__ to hide their desires__ or job situations, it's__ no wonder that director__ Joseph Discher has__ spent a lot of time during__ rehearsals to make sure__ that all the actors don't__ get confused about__ what's happening.__ "If it all sounds__ confusing, it's actually__ much easier when you're__ watching the characters__ on stage," said Discher,__ who makes his FST__ debut with the production.__ "It's absolutely__ brilliant the way it's__ written. It combines__ some of the greatest__ comedy tropes ever__ written in commedia,__ one of the great forms of__ improvisational comedy,__ mixed with British farce.__ There are doors slamming,__ people falling all__ over each other, word-play.__ It's ridiculous__ humor but so funny."__ The New York Times__ called Bean's adaptation__ "inspired" and said the__ play is "both satanic and__ seraphic, dirty-minded__ and utterly innocent.__ Letting loose and__ neutralizing all sorts of__ demons, it's ideal escapism__ for anxious times."__ The bulk of the work-load__ falls on Carew who__ gets quite a workout__ in the role that was__ originated by the British__ actor James Corden,__ who went on to win a__ Tony Award for his per-formance__ before taking__ over as host of CBS'__ "The Late Late Show. …
