Lalique Creates a Jewelry Suite for the Opera

A haute jewelry collection and a less expensive fashion assortment are being sold.

At the turn of the century, the jeweler Rene Lalique created custom pieces for the wealthy and acclaimed women of his day. Now, the house of Lalique is working with the Opera de Paris to produce a line of fine jewelry inspired by that history.

"Aesthetically, what's important in the new Adrienne collection is that it's black and white," said Anne Kazuro, jewelry director for the brand. "Lalique is all about contrast: polished and sheen, Art Nouveau and Art Deco."

The collection, named for Francesco Cilea's opera "Adriana Lecouvreur," includes a necklace, pendant and earrings. Its two rings also feature raspberry-colored rubellites, a reminder of opera's penchant for passion, she said. …
