Lucky Escape for Residents as Roof Is Blown Off

RESIDENTS in a Denton suburb claimed it was a miracle no-one was killed when the storm ripped the roof off a row of shops.

High-winds tore away the new roof from the parade of shops on Moorfield Avenue, flipping it over and sending it crashing onto cars and across a roundabout.

At the time of the incident people were inside the convenience store on the row while some residents were inside flats above the shops when the roof was torn away.

Amazingly, no-one was hurt in the drama, even though several vehicles were damaged by bricks which had fallen from the building. Firefighters were scrambled to the scene and Police cordoned off the area. One resident, telecoms engineer Chris Stopford, 31, described how he was inside his home close to the parade when he heard a bang.
