Closter Councilman-Elect Takes over Opponent's Seat

CLOSTER -- Democrat Brian Stabile, elected this month to a full council term, has been sworn to the one-month vacancy remaining in the term of defeated election rival Republican Councilman Tom Hennessey.

Hennessey had been appointed to fill out John Glidden's term for the rest of the year when the latter was elected mayor last year. Because it was an appointment and not an election, Stabile immediately took over the seat before starting his own full term.

GOP incumbent Alissa Latner and Stabile and fellow Democrat Jannie Chung won council seats Nov. 3. Incumbents Arthur Dolson and Hennessey lost. Stabile was sworn in Monday. Chung will have a January swearing-in.

The election has shaken up the all-Republican Closter council, which has featured few differences debated among members. …
