CITY Women's defender Lucy Bronze has been shortlisted for the BBC's Sports Personality of the Year award.

The 24-year-old joins athletes Jessica Ennis-Hill, Mo Farah and Greg Rutherford, with tennis player Andy Murray, F1's Lewis Hamilton, boxer Tyson Fury, cyclists Chris Froome and Lizzie Armitstead, swimmer Adam Peaty, gymnast Max Whitlock and rugby league's Kevin Sinfield.

Bronze, who is the first female footballer to be nominated for the award, has enjoyed an incredible year helping City to a second place finish in the FA WSL 1 and qualification for the Champions League.

But it was her exploits with England during the World Cup, in which the Lionesses finished third, that was the highlight of her season.

She said: "We did so well at the World Cup so I was very surprised to be nominated for an individual award because there are a handful of girls that could have represented the team within this category. …
