Five Defending Champions Advance to AHSAA Finals; Fayette County Plays Friday

The state's top high school football teams will arrive in Tuscaloosa this week to compete in the Super 7 state championship games at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Five defending champions advanced to the finals of the 50th AHSAA state football playoffs, including Class 6A Clay-Chalkville (14-0), Class 5A St. Paul's Episcopal, Class 4A Leeds (12-2), Class 2A Fyffe (13-1) and Class 1A Maplesville (12-1).

In Class 7A, Spain Park (12-1) will take on McGill-Toolen (12-1) on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The Class 3A final between Bayside Academy (11-3) and Piedmont (13-1) will kick off Thursday's games at 11 a.m. In Class 1A, Maplesville will play Cedar Bluff (13-1) at 3 p.m., and in Class 5A, Mortimer Jordan (13-1) will take on St. Paul's Episcopal at 7 p.m.

Fayette County (10-4) opens up Friday's slate of games against Leeds in the Class 4A final at 11 a. …
