Man surrenders in Hill after apartment siege

A Pittsburgh SWAT team had to respond to a domestic call Sunday morning when a man barricaded himself in an apartment in the Hill District and later surrendered.

According to a release by the city's Department of Public Safety, Zone 2 officers initially responded to a domestic call around 2:30 a.m. in the 2400 block of Chauncey Drive. Later, around 5:40 a.m., police had to return to the location. They said Issa Luqma Abdus- Salaam, 27, threatened officers and began sharpening knives before barricading himself.

Police evacuated several apartments, and the woman also involved in the incident was able to escape the building unharmed.

After SWAT arrived, officers negotiated with the Mr. Abdus- Salaam for about 20 minutes. …
