Article excerpt

SEATTLE -- Ben Roethlisberger threw for the third-most yards of his career but it still was not enough as the Seattle Seahawks defeated the Steelers, 39-30, at CenturyLink Field in a game that changed leads seven times.

Roethlisberger completed 36 of 55 passes for 456 yards, but he also was intercepted twice and Seattle turned those into touchdowns on the ensuing series. He left the game late with a possible concussion after the Seahawks scored on an 80-yard pass play to put the game away with 2:01 left.

Markus Wheaton had the best game of his three-year career with nine receptions for 201 yards and one touchdown.

Backup quarterback Landry Jones was intercepted on a fake field goal and the Seahawks responded with a touchdown on that series, too.

Jones was intercepted a second time when he threw deep with 37 seconds left after Roethlisberger was lifted.

The Steelers had four interceptions while Seattle had no turnovers.

The loss dropped the Steelers into a multiple-team tie in the wild-card race at 6-5. The Seahawks improved to 6-5.

Seattle sealed the game when Russell Wilson threw his fifth touchdown pass with 2:01 left to give the Seahawks a 39-30 lead. It came on third-and-10 at his 20. Wilson completed 21 of 30 passes for 345 yards.

The Steelers did not try to run the ball much. DeAngelo Williams led them with 29 yards on eight carries and they had 58 total on 14 tries.

Early in the fourth quarter, Roethlisberger threw deep down the left sideline from his 20. Antonio Brown, his intended receiver, fell down and Richard Sherman intercepted it and returned it 26 yards to the Steelers 39.

Seattle made them pay for it when Wilson threw his third touchdown pass, of 9 yards to Jermaine Kearse, his second score. Wilson's pass for 2 points failed and the Seahawks led, 26-21, with 12:17 to go. …
