Borough Opens Up to Allow Dining Outdoors

A new policy in Ambridge could be a breath of fresh air for local restaurants and their patrons.

Borough council this month adopted a new ordinance that will allow outdoor dining at restaurants in the borough.

Previously, outdoor dining was banned due to a section of the zoning code that required restaurant operators to keep food inside their establishments.

The efforts were spearheaded by the borough's Downtown Development Committee, which meets monthly with professional planners from Town Center Associates, a firm that helps towns revitalize their business districts. The development committee serves as the borough's coordinator for the Beaver County Main Street Network.

The committee suggested that allowing outside dining would help attract new businesses to the town and sustain the ones already there, Ambridge manager Joe Kauer said. …
