KHP: Four Fatal Crashes Kill 5 on Kansas Highways over Holiday Weekend; 14 DUI Arrests Made

More than 150 adults in Topeka were found to be traveling in motor vehicles without wearing their seat belts during a just- completed traffic enforcement campaign.

The Topeka Police Department was among law enforcement agencies across the state that participated in the Kansas Thanksgiving Traffic Enforcement Campaign, which ran from Monday, Nov. 23, through Sunday, Nov. 29.

A grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation underwrote overtime traffic enforcement that targeted impaired drivers and improperly and unrestrained vehicle occupants.

Results from the Topeka Police Department included:

- Total citizen contacts: 176

- Child seat belt violations: 1

- Teen seat belt violations: 9

- Adult seat belt violations: 154

- Narcotics: 1

- Driver's license violations: 4

- Red light violations: 1

- Speeding: 1

- Insurance: 1

- Open container: 1

- Other charges: 4
