WOODLAND PARK -- Holiday lights and garlands will adorn trees and the gazebo at Dowling Gardens all month, as borough officials try to kindle festive cheer and draw visitors to the downtown.

The lights were turned on in a Sunday night ceremony featuring borough officials, Santa Claus, Rudolph, firetrucks, popcorn and hot chocolate. The Woodland Park Business Association, a group of 45 local businesses, donated $1,000 toward the $4,700 cost of the lights, Mayor Keith Kazmak said.

Borough officials hope the park becomes "a destination for people to come from the entire region to ... enjoy the park, and hopefully at the same time patronize our restaurants and businesses," Kazmark said.

The park has been transformed since the borough bought the former dairy farm in 2001. It opened a gazebo in 2008 and last year dedicated a clock tower marking Woodland Park's 100th anniversary. …
