Fatal Shooting Is Paterson's 11th So Far This Year

PATERSON -- A 19-year-old man was shot to death and discovered by officers outside his home early Saturday, police said, marking the 11th shooting fatality in the city to date this year.

Shortly after 2 a.m., officers responded to 53 N. Third St. on a report of a shooting and found Lamonte Proctor and another victim -- a Paterson woman in her 20s -- outside, Detective Capt. Heriberto Rodriguez said in a statement.

Proctor and the female victim were taken to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center. Proctor was pronounced dead shortly after, Rodriguez said.

The other victim was treated and released, he said.

The shooting occurred in the city's 1st Ward. Young men from that district and the neighboring 4th Ward -- neighborhoods marked by poverty and high crime rates -- have been locked in a long-standing and violent territorial feud. …
