LEONIA - Two Fort Lee Road properties are being eyed for possible acquisition, as the borough moves forward with plans to build a new police station.

The Borough Council this week authorized the appraisal of 245 and 247 Fort Lee Road, which are residential properties located adjacent to the town library and behind the Ambulance Corps building. The firm Robert McNerny Appraisers has been tapped to handle the job.

Borough officials have proposed replacing the current police station, which has been described as cramped and insufficient for the department's needs. Council President Greg Makroulakis said one option being considered is building the new station on both the Ambulance Corps property and the two Fort Lee Road parcels. The municipal court could also be moved to the site, he said. …
