Wtae Will Air Project Bundle Up Telethon Friday

Thirty years, more than $13 million and 267,000 coats later, Project Bundle Up is still warming up.

A live telethon will be broadcast over the course of the day Friday by WTAE, which partners with The Salvation Army each year. Starting at 5 a.m. and breaking into newscasts and other programming, the holiday season fundraiser also will be the focus of a TV special from 7-8 p.m.

An online auction, running from July through August, brought in prior contributions. Volunteers at a phone bank will accept donations throughout the day Friday until the 11 p.m. newscast. Other ways to donate include texting "BUNDLEUP" to 41444 and at wtae.com.

Early champions of the project were former WTAE chief meteorologist Joe DeNardo and Salvation Army board members Jeanne Caliguiri and Pat Rooney, said Fran Brace, director of development for The Salvation Army. …
