After an extreme infestation of bedbugs recently, the 65-year- old man had to destroy the household furnishings in the apartment where he lives alone. He is mildly mentally challenged and doesn't really understand what happened.

"They had to completely get rid of everything he has, his caseworker said - even the carpet in his home was pulled up.

The man currently sleeps on a roll-away cot and only has one chair to sit on in his living room.

He really needs $350 for a twin bed and linens and $250 for a recliner, but it will take time for him to buy them because he receives only $733 each month with his Supplemental Social Security Income.

The new furniture he needs would be modest, but an improvement over what the man currently has.

"We're thinking a twin bed and mattress linens, if we can get them, his caseworker said. …
