Locurto Steps Down as Highlands Coach

Chris Locurto loves being a head football coach. But he loves being a dad more.

Locurto has resigned as the coach at Northern Highlands to spend more time with his family. He spent nine seasons coaching the Highlanders, and posted a 32-58 record.

"I told the kids on Monday, and it was one of the toughest things I've ever had to do," said Locurto, 44. "Kids were crying, and I got choked up a bit. But they understood.

"I've always told them that family and faith come first. It was just time to practice what I was preaching."

Locurto, who teaches at Northern Highlands, said he might decide to work somewhere as an assistant or coordinator because those jobs are not as time consuming. The Highlanders were 4-6 last season, with five losses coming to teams that reached state sectional semifinal games.
