Black Friday Smooth at Mall Officials Laud Security Increases for Keeping Peace at Facility

Increased security and the presence of a police substation at the Monroeville Mall proved to be a positive thing on Black Friday.

"We had extra guys working details throughout the mall," said Monroeville police Chief Doug Cole. Officers were also staffed at the mall's substation, which opened in March.

He added, "We had no incidents other than our normal retail thefts we get involved in" and things like public intoxication.

"Everything went really well," on Black Friday, said Stacey Keating, spokeswoman for the mall.

She said that since security has been increased things have been "going very smoothly" there.

"We're thrilled," she said adding that there were "nothing but happy shoppers" on Black Friday.

After a few incidents at the mall, including a shooting in February, a youth escort policy was implemented by mall management. …
