An American in Uganda accused of running an international counterfeiting scheme with confederates in several U.S. states is set to appear in federal court in Pittsburgh on Monday after a judge in Uganda ordered him deported this week.

Ryan Gustafson, who had been on trial in Uganda for counterfeiting, is scheduled for an initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Maureen Kelly to face charges of counterfeiting and conspiracy filed here last year.

He was originally charged by complaint in December 2014 and then named in an indictment in April that also charges three cohorts in Las Vegas, Seattle and Bethlehem, Pa.

The U.S. Attorney's office said Mr. Gustafson led an organization from Uganda that shipped fake money to associates in Pittsburgh, Florida, Minnesota, Texas and Washington. …
