Fire Crew to Blaze a Trail on Bikes

FIREFIGHTERS from Oldham are in training for a charity cycle ride across Europe.

And they are banking on international co-operation to help them raise Pounds 40,000.

Eight firemen from the town's station in Lees Road, and four friends will cycle 1,300 miles.

They will be flown out to Oldham's twin town, Kranj, in Slovenia. They will then ride through the Austrian Alps to Landsberg am Lech in Germany, which is also twinned with Oldham.

The team will also cycle through Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Belgium, France, and England back to Oldham.

One of the eight firemen, Lee Cropper, said: "We will be getting support from Slovenian firefighters who will ride with us for the start of the journey. We hope to get support too from the German brigades, who will help us with accommodation. …
