Tenafly Trustees to Vote Dec. 15 on Teachers Pact

TENAFLY -- Members of the Tenafly Education Association ratified a tentative agreement with the Board of Education, bringing the district one step closer to settling the teachers union contract negotiations.

The agreement will go before the school board for a vote at the Dec. 15 public meeting, TEA President Jackie Wellman said.

The union has been working without a contract since July 1, when the previous contract expired.

Nearly 300 members of the TEA, representing 575 district teachers, custodial and maintenance workers, secretaries and paraprofessionals, gathered at Tenafly High School on Monday to vote on the tentative agreement, Wellman said, and 80 percent of the members voted for deal.

"We think it is a very fair deal, one of the best deals right now in Bergen County," Wellman said.

Wellman was not able to release any details of the settlement, as the school board has yet to vote on it. …
