CRUNCH TIME ; LVG Tells Reds to Prove They Are Worthy of Champions League Last 16 Spot

LOUIS van Gaal has challenged United to prove they are worthy of being in the draw for the Champions League last 16.

The Reds need to beat Group B leaders Wolfsburg in Germany tonight to be sure of making the knockout stage in February.

If they lose and PSV Eindhoven beat or draw with CSKA Moscow in Holland then United will be consigned to the Europa League and suffer a group KO as they did in 2005 and 2011 when beaten in the final match by Benfica and Basel.

And Van Gaal, who won the trophy with Ajax in 1995, believes the 90 minutes in the Wolfsburg Arena will be the most important of his Old Trafford reign to date.

"I think always that the moment you are in is always the most important thing," said Van Gaal. " We have to fight against Manchester City or against Liverpool and for the fans they are very important matches but at this moment this is the most important match. …
