ST. LOUIS * A judge has blocked subpoenas by Public Defender Mary Fox that sought to bring Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce and Police Chief Sam Dotson into court over their push to get the St. Louis Circuit Court to create a separate gun crime docket.

Fox issued subpoenas to both after accusing them of pressuring judges into setting unfairly high bail for defendants in firearms cases. She declined to comment, so it was not clear what she wanted to ask them under oath Monday in a bail reduction hearing for Dontrell French, 26, who is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm.

Judge Michael Mullen quashed the subpoenas Monday.

Dotson, Joyce and Mayor Francis Slay have been proponents of assigning dedicated judges to handle gun crimes for accountability and faster results, but the court resisted. …
