A MANCHESTER United fan died of a head injury after he was punched during a fight with Manchester City supporters, an inquest ruled.

Michael Carter, 49, from Eccles, Salford, was punched in the face and fell backwards onto his head during the brawl on Deansgate last year.

He suffered from a brain injury and died several days later at Salford Royal Hospital on September 10, 2014.

The inquest at Manchester Crown Court, which lasted two days, heard Mr Carter and his friend Lee Hindle were enjoying a night out in the city centre.

In the early hours of August 31, the men decided to get a takeaway and got into friendly banter about football with City fans Cameron Ronaldson and Brandon Bisson. Both groups of men separated, but met each other again further up along Deansgate a few moments later. …
