ARESPECTED secretary at top Manchester clothing firm led a double life as a swindler.

Hayley Burt, 32, scammed colleagues at Whispering Smith where for nine months she worked as personal assistant to one of directors. She promised she could get cut-price hotel stays and tickets for sold-out big events but then pocketed the money for herself.

But after raking thousands of pounds from people by telling them she could get tickets to see stars for Peter Kay, One Direction, Glastonbury and Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, she disappeared from work on March 31.

Colleagues were stunned to learn that she hadn't shown up to the office because she had been jailed for scams committed while working at another company.

While behind bars, she wrote to colleagues at Whispering Smith and confessed to having ripped them off too - leading to police starting a new investigation into her crimes.

Now Burt, of Maisemore Road, Wythenshawe - who is still serving her sentence for the earlier thefts from colleagues at a car leasing firm - has been jailed for an extra 54 weeks after admitting fraud and theft following her time at Whispering Smith. Manchester Crown Court heard that when she was taken on by Whispering Smith in June 2014, she hid from bosses that she was a serial fraudster with string of convictions for dishonest offences dating back to 2008. …
