LET THERE BE LIGHT! ; Christmas Has Always Been a Time to Light the Winter Darkness but Two Illuminating Festivals Will Be Brightening Our Cities This Weekend

LIGHT is the word when it comes to art this week as two major outdoor festivals launch in neighbouring cities Manchester and Salford.

In Manchester, the Enlighten Manchester Festival Of Light And Sound Art weekend runs from yesterday to Sunday and brings art and international choirs to the city.

Central Library and The Bridgewater Hall both get a temporary colourful makeover for the next three days, and more than 15 installations, performances and talks will take place during this giant celebration of light, sound and literature.

Artists include award-winner Paul Friedlander, light and sound artist Ulf Pedersen - both works are world premieres - plus audio visual artist Kathy Hinde. At least 10 local artists have also contributed, including poet Adelle Stripe, designer Trevor Johnson, light artist Elisa Artesero and photographer Andrew Brooks. …
