LIGHTS, MENORAH, ACTIVISM * St. Louis Rabbi Susan Talve well known for her active role in Ferguson-related protests took part in the annual Hanukkah ceremony Wednesday at the White House. Talve, of Central Reform Congregation, also took the opportunity to talk about Ferguson, guns and toxic wastes.

A pool report from the ceremony, attended by President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama, said Talve offered up a "lengthy and spirited speech."

Reports said her address included references to Ferguson, the need to "get guns off our streets" and to "clean up the fires of toxic nuclear waste" polluting St. Louis County and the nation. After her remarks, Talve led the traditional Hanukkah blessing, which was followed by the lighting of the menorah.

THE BIG BOARD * With plans to shell out more than $8 million, the Cardinals will upgrade the video equipment at Busch Stadium for the 2016 season.

Tony Simokaitis, the club's director of scoreboard operations, was unavailable to comment. But P-D beat writer Derrick Goold confirmed that the high-tech tune-up was going to happen.

Goold, covering MLB winter meetings in Nashville, Tenn., said the plan is to replace all video boards and cameras with high- resolution equipment.

FEATHERED FRIENDS * With the news that Cardinals outfielder Jon Jay had been traded to San Diego, Yadier Molina took to Twitter to express his dismay.

If the number of exclamation points matter, his sentiments are most sincere: "So sad! First Tony and now Jay!! Maybe I'm next!!! It may be business but for me you guys are family. U will b missed!"

With his farewell, Molina posted a picture of himself with Jay, who was swapped for infielder Jedd Gyorko, and with Tony Cruz, who was dealt last week to the Kansas City Royals.

Also moving to San Diego will be Jay's wife, Nikki Stecich Jay, a 2005 St. Joseph's Academy grad who, like Jay, attended the University of Miami. Her father is Rudy Stecich, former football star at Vianney High (Class of '77) and the University of Missouri. …
