Florida Accounts for 17 Percent of US Foreclosures

Florida remains atop the nation in completed foreclosures.

Mortgage lenders closed on 86,074 foreclosures in Florida during the 12-month period ended in October, data provider CoreLogic reported Tuesday.

The state accounted for 17.4 percent of all the foreclosures nationwide in the past year. But the total was down by 34,898, or 29 percent, from 2014.

Florida's foreclosure inventory -- the share of mortgaged homes in some stage of the process -- stood at 2.5 percent in October, tied for second-highest in the nation.

While the state's foreclosure inventory is down from 4.1 percent over the year, it is still more than double the U.S. rate of 1.2 percent.

"A large proportion of the remaining foreclosure inventory is clustered in New York, New Jersey and Florida," said Anand Nallathambi, president/CEO at CoreLogic. …
