The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled on Friday that Michel Platini can remain suspended as he faces ethics charges, but it also said the ban could not be provisionally extended.

Michel Platini lost his appeal to have a provisional suspension from all soccer-related activities lifted, the Court of Arbitration for Sport announced on Friday, though the body ordered that FIFA not extend the ban beyond its initial 90 days.

The ruling from the court in Lausanne, Switzerland, was not surprising. Mr. Platini, the president of the European soccer body UEFA, and Sepp Blatter, the FIFA president who is also serving a provisional suspension, are scheduled to have full hearings before FIFA's ethics committee in the coming week to address charges of corruption stemming from a FIFA payment of $2 million to Mr. …
