Special Swansong as Youth Orchestra's Chief Calls It a Day

THE musical director of Rochdale Youth Orchestra bowed out in style at the annual Christmas Spectacular concert.

Sue Verity, who is retiring after more than 35 years at the helm, was celebrated at the popular event, which took place at the Gracie Fields Theatre.

Special guests included the mayor, Coun Surinder Biant and mayoress, Coun Cecile Biant, MP Simon Danczuk, orchestra president Keith Swift, and dignitaries from Rochdale Childer, which sponsors the orchestra, including president Maureen Cooper and chairman Keith Fairhurst.

Sue was joined by members of her family, including daughter Sally on French horn and grandaughter Katie Moore, 13, who sang O Holy Night, accompanied by the orchestra.

Ken Davies acted as master of ceremonies, and guest performers were St Vincent's Primary School choir with musical director Chris Willis and pianist Judith Golding. …
