Federal drug trial delayed by lawyer's illness

The federal trial of a North Hills head shop owner and a reputed East Hills heroin dealer was halted Thursday when the judge stopped the case because a lawyer had to be rushed to the hospital with chest pains.

Attorney Daphne Silverman, wife of lead counsel Norm Silverman, who represents defendant Mayank Mishra, suffered a medical emergency in the courthouse lobby as she and her husband returned from lunch. The courthouse nurse examined her and then summoned paramedics to take her to UPMC Mercy.

U.S. District Judge Cathy Bissoon released the jury for the day and said the trial may resume Monday, depending on Mrs. Silverman's condition.

Mr. Mishra, owner of Rock America in the former Northway Mall, is charged with conspiring to deal heroin with Richard Bush, who is accused of preparing heroin in his basement lab in the East Hills using stamp bags and cutting agents that Mr. …
