Casinos in the Missouri portion of the St. Louis area had a solid November, when all four gambling halls outdid themselves from a year ago.

The story was different for the area's two Illinois casinos, according to figures released Thursday by state regulators.

Pinnacle Entertainment's River City Casino had the best November when measured by the percentage increase in winnings. River City, in south St. Louis County, won $18.3 million last month, up 5.7 percent from November 2014.

In contrast, revenue at Penn National Gaming's Argosy Alton casino dipped 3.1 percent to $4.1 million. Revenue also fell at the Casino Queen, in East St. Louis.

Total revenue in the St. Louis gaming market was up a solid 2.1 percent. Making the performance more impressive was that November 2014 had five Saturdays, often a casino's busiest day of the week. …
