EDMUNDSON > Resolution opposes county's police standards * Edmundson is urging County Executive Steve Stenger in a strongly worded resolution "to abandon his unconstitutional plan to attempt to take over local police departments."

The resolution is in response to an ordinance enacted by the county council on Dec. 1 at Stenger's urging that imposes minimum law enforcement standards on the 57 separately governed county police departments. It has already been challenged in a lawsuit, brought by Olivette, Rock Hill and Breckenridge Hills.

Edmundson's resolution was approved unanimously by aldermen on Thursday night. Aldermen have not formally discussed whether the city will join the lawsuit.

The resolution notes that the St. Louis County charter does not allow control of local police departments by the county executive. …
