Gary was chronically homeless. He had been in and out of shelters for a while when he stopped in one day at the Drop-In Center at Covenant House. In addition to being homeless, Gary was dealing with a lot of health problems, most notably heart trouble. A few months ago, he was admitted to a local hospital after his blood pressure spiked.

He called Covenant House from his hospital bed, asking for help. He wanted a home to go to upon his release.

He received a monthly Supplemental Security Income check, but it wasn't enough for the security deposit on a place to live.

Through its Residential and Resource Program, Covenant House was able to pay that security deposit and, for the first time in a long time, Gary had an apartment of his own. …
