OKLAHOMA CITY - Boulevard Cafeteria, 525 NW 11th St., closed Friday after lunch service.

The restaurant has been in Midtown since the 1940s, though it started its life at NW 10th Street and N. Dewey Avenue, where EMSA is now located.

Garland Arrington opened the restaurant in 1948. He sold it to John Schroer Sr. and Pat Denham in 1956. John Schroer Sr. built the existing Boulevard Cafeteria in 1976. The Schroer family took full control of the restaurant after Denham died in a 1960 boat explosion.

Schroer Sr. and his wife Florene retired in 1978. Younger son Robert Schroer took over the restaurant, but he died in 1989. Younger brother Bill Schroer bought The Boulevard from Robert's estate in 1990. Bill Schroer died in 1998 and The Boulevard was left to his widow, Malin Schroer. …
