I AM a carer for my wife who has heart failure and can only walk with aids. I have been attending weekly meetings at Oasis, which provides carer support in terms of group therapy and individual therapies, such as yoga and meditation, all under one roof.

I have been to meetings depressed and emotionally drained and after a chat with other carers and individual therapies have come away refreshed in mind and body. These meetings have kept me going at my lowest points and I have seen it have the same effect on other carers who attend. I was therefore very upset and shocked to learn the council has withdrawn our funding from the end of next month.

Nowhere else in Stockport provides the type of service Oasis offers as they cater for carers who care for all types of conditions, such as physical and mental, or both. Some of the carers have tried the other meetings, such as those for dementia, but they cannot provide the same type of service they require. …
