Jess Hasn't Given Up Hope of Making a Splash in Rio ; Rowing

THEY might not have made the podium at this year's World Championships, but Rochdale's Jess Leyden believes it would be foolish to count out Britain's women's quad team at next year's Olympics.

It was a far-from perfect performance from Leyden, Frances Houghton, Kristina Stiller and Melanie Wilson as they failed to reach the final in France and missed out on securing qualification for Rio.

But Leyden, from Hollingworth Lake Rowing Club, is confident the team can still claim their spot in Brazil and, once there, she knows anything can happen.

"We are all competing in our singles to get selection for the quad again now and we will go to the final regatta and, hopefully, qualify the quad then," she said. "There are a lot of girls going for the quad seats so there is always a lot of competition, but that's a good thing. …
