University of West Alabama Signs 10 Football Players

LIVINGSTON -- The University of West Alabama signed 10 football players Wednesday, the first day of the 2015 mid-year signing period. Nine are junior college transfers and one is transferring from an FBS program. The group includes three defensive backs, three linebackers, a defensive end, offensive lineman, wide receiver and kicker/punter.

"We are thrilled with the addition of these signees to our family," West Alabama coach Brett Gilliland said. "They fill some very specific holes on our team.

"This is an extremely talented group of athletes and will be fun to watch make plays in the red and white," Gilliland said. "We are not finished yet, and will be adding several more guys before classes begin in January."

Signees include JUCO All-American Donta Armstrong, (5-10, 160, WR) from Northeast Mississippi Community College; Jamal Blackwell, (5-10, 170, DB) a JUCO all-star from Jones County Junior College; Joe Green, (6-2, 240, DE) a JUCO all-star from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College; Dwight Griggs, (6-1, 240, LB) from Mississippi Delta Community College; Xavier Hemmingway, (6-4, 247, OL) from the University of Connecticut; JUCO All-American Ty Hill, (6-1, 210, LB) from Jones County Community College; Ashton Jackson, (5-10, 176, DB) from Southwest Mississippi Community College; Reed James, (5-10, 180, P/PK) a JUCO all-star from Southwest Community College; LaDarius Johnson, (5-10, 190, LB) from Mississippi Delta Community College; and Se'Quan Steele, (6-0, 177, DB) from Mississippi Delta Community College. …
