I was heartened to see the comments of Grant Oliphant of the Heinz Endowments, Karla Boos of Quantum Theatre and Tom Sokolowski, formerly of the Andy Warhol Museum, in your Dec. 9 story on the resignation of Charlie Humphrey ("Charlie Humphrey Resigns as Executive Director of Pittsburgh Filmmakers/Pittsburgh Center for the Arts").

The care and nurturing of a nonprofit organization over many years of growth and change is a difficult juggling act that few can accomplish with as much talent as Mr. Humphrey brought to Filmmakers and the Center for the Arts. I don't know much about the current circumstances inside the organization, but I do know that Mr. Humphrey's 23 years at Filmmakers, including nine years leading the merged organizations, clearly included many successes in supporting talented artists while marrying vision, mission and money in an often impossible dance. …
